Advanced Studies in Global Citizenship, Human Rights in-class writing, Human Rights of Aboriginal Australians
I am choosing to include this piece because through this paper, I developed a better understanding of the history for Aboriginal Australians, as well as it being an opening into a perspective of indigenous life that has been completely overridden by colonization.

Advanced Studies in Global Citizenship, Current Events (9/20), Current Events: Global Citizenship
During the part of the year, we focused on current events, especially geared toward global news. When I found this article on sex work in Senegal I was immediately interested in understanding the challenges for women. I chose to include this in my portfolio because it was an article where I had to step outside of my own previous understanding of sex work in America. I realized this was a different situation.

Spanish II, Presentation, The History of the Mirabal Sisters
I included this because this was an example of the importance of language and understanding the history of countries outside of my own.

JCI, My Child Letter, Reform Judaism
In my sophomore year, I took Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which previous to the class, I had little knowledge about religion. This was an assignment where I had to step out of my own experiences and perspective and step into that of another’s. Doing this letter also made me think more deeply about the experiences of someone who practices Judaism.

The Global Seminar, IRHC Paper, The Cambodian Genocide
This was one of my first big papers and in it I was my research on the Cambodian Genocide. I want to include this because I had to analyze through the lense of a global citizen, as well as see the faults in actions taken prior to and before the genocide. It was also an introduction to defining international human rights and the application of them.
